America has lost a patriot: US remembers George H W Bush

Washington: Condolences poured in from all quarters as former US President George H W Bush passed away on November 30 (local time, December 1 IST).

United States President Donald Trump condoled Bush senior’s passing away with a statement that noted his “essential authenticity” : “Melania and I join with a grieving Nation to mourn the loss of former President George H.W. Bush, who passed away last night. Through his essential authenticity, disarming wit, and unwavering commitment to faith, family, and country, President Bush inspired generations of his fellow Americans to public service-to be, in his words, “a thousand points of light” illuminating the greatness, hope, and opportunity of America to the world,” the statement read.

Trump’s predecessor Barack Obama remembered Bush senior by outlining his achievements as the 41st President of the country. “America has lost a patriot and humble servant in George Herbert Walker Bush. While our hearts are heavy today, they are also filled with gratitude. Our thoughts are with the entire Bush family tonight – and all who were inspired by George and Barbara’s example,” he tweeted.

The 41st President had ordered the invasion of Kuwait to drive out Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein. He formed a 30-nation coalition for the task which was backed by the UN.
Bush senior had also ushered in a ‘new world order’, while steering the United States’ foreign policy during the collapse of the USSR in 1991.

Details regarding the leader’s funeral are awaited, while no information has been made available about the reason behind the 94-year-old stalwart’s demise.
