Hyderabad: Department of Minorities Welfare of Telangana State has clarified that for any amendment in Overseas Studies Scholarship for Minorities requires the approval of the Govt. since the present conditions are similar for SCs, STs and Minorities.
For availing of this scheme 513 applications were received out of which 280 were declared eligible but later 86 applications were rejected due to non-compliance of certain conditions.
The committee constituted to finalize these applications is likely to meet within a week. It will finalize the list of eligible candidate who fulfill all the conditions. It may be noted that passing GRE and GMAT are the essential conditions for grant of this scholarship even in the countries where such condition is not applicable.
An official of the Department of Minorities Welfare informed that the budget allocated by the Govt. for this scheme can benefit only 236 candidates. He also informed that rigid conditions are being imposed to ensure admissions of the students in reputed universities. Various representations are being made for amending these rigid conditions which are being forwarded to the Govt. The parents have decided to make a representation in this regard to Mr. Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Dy. CM of Telangana State for relaxing these rules. Parents of the candidates whose applications have been rejected are perturbed.
