Amendment to Child Labour Act introduced in Rajya Sabha

Minister for State (Independent Charge) of Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya said here on Tuesday that an amendment to the existing Child Labour Act, which proposes to completely ban child labour up to the age of 14 years, has been introduced in the Rajya Sabha

The revision seeks to make penalties for violations of the Act more stringent.

Speaking at a national consultation on child domestic work, Dattatreya further stated that the proposed amendments also provide for not allowing minors to work in hazardous occupations and processes, emphasising on the strict implementation of the law.

The minister further stated that children between the ages of 9-14 years, who have been rescued from child labour, will be rehabilitated by providing by them education and skill training in special training centres, while children between the age five to eight years are to be sent to mainstream schools.
