Ameer Meenai celebrations in Urdu University

Instructional Media Centre of Maulana Azad National Urdu University celebrated Ameer Meenayi’s function at Urdu Hall, Himayathnagar on 30th March. Prof. Mohammed Miyan, Vice Chancellor of Urdu University presided over the function. Prof. Syed Anees Ashfaq, Head of the Dept. of Urdu of Lucknow University attended the function as Chief Guest.

Dr. Syed Abdul Wahab Qaiser, Incharge Director of Instructional Media Centre and the Convenor of the programme highlighted the aims and objectives of the function and welcomed the guests and audience. He told that when Maulana Abul Kalam Azad started composing verses in Urdu in 1899, Ameer Meenayi’s fame was at its peak. Maulana Azad got his poem corrected by Ameer Meenayi initially.

When Ameer Meenayi passed away in 1900 in Hyderabad, Maulana Azad had composed a poem to commemorate him.

Mr. Ziauddin Nayyar, acting President of Iqbal Academy presented a paper on Ameer Meenayi. Ms. Lakshmi Devi Raj told that Hyderabad has been the meeting point of the North and the South. Fani Badayuni, Dagh and Ameer Menayi were buried in Hyderabad.

Dr. Mohammed Ziauddin Ahmed Shakaib (London) highlighted Ameer Meenayi’s relations with Hyderabad. He said that Hyderabad has been the center of knowledge and literature. Deccan is the place where Urdu got its script.

Dr. Mohammed Naseemuddin Farees, Head of the Dept. of Urdu of Urdu University introduced the guest speaker Prof. Anees Ashfaque. Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Anees Ashfaque told that Ameer Meenayi didn’t get the status in Urdu literature what he deserved. There is a need to rediscover Ameer Meenayi.

Prof. Mohammed Miyan, in his presidential address told that Urdu University would take every step for the protection of Urdu culture and its civilization. He assured that in future also, such programmes to rediscover the past would be organized by Urdu University. Dr. Sameena Kausar Tabish, Assistant Professor of Arabic of Urdu University conducted the programme. Prof. S.A. Wahab Qaiser proposed a vote of thanks at the end of the meeting.

In the second session of the programme, poems of Ameer Meenayi were rendered through music by Ms. Purvaguru Sharma.
