Wasim Qureshi (35) has been using the ambulance named after Ishrat Jahan since 25th December 2011 but suddenly the name of the ambulance attracted the attention of some people. He has been using this ambulance to transport patients in Mumbra area of Thane District in the vicinity of Mumbai. He received threatening calls from some miscreant that they would kill him if he uses this name as she is a terrorist. It may be noted that the Ambulance has a label “In memory of Shahid Ishrat Jahan” painted in Red and White on the Ambulance. Qureshi clarified that Ishrat Jahan belong to Mumbra and she is not a terrorist. She was killed in a fake encounter in Ahmadabad on 15th June 2004. She was a second year student in a college. She was staying at Rasheed compound in Mumbra. Mr. Raoof Lala Afzal, former cooperator from Ishrat Jahan’s locality told that an NGO (My Mumbra Foundation) started Ambulance service and named it after her. This service was inaugurated by Ms. Brinda Karat, in 2011.
