Ambedkar’s statue changes its colour from saffron to blue overnight

Badaun: After much criticism in social media, the district administration of Dugraiyya village had to go on the back foot. The Ambedkar’s statue which was painted saffron was changed to blue overnight. It must be recalled that BSP leaders had garlanded the saffron statue on Monday, while the statue was changed to blue by Tuesday.

BSP district president after garlanding the statue on Tuesday told that 5 statues were brought from Agra, among them the best was chosen and installed, but after it was widely criticised on social media, the villagers changed the statue to blue colour. Now no one has an objection.

It must be recalled that the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh on Monday had installed a statue of B.R. Ambedkar in a Budaun village painted saffron, unlike the usual blue. Ambedkar’s statue was vandalised some time back.

The move to install a saffron Ambedkar statue, also drew flak from the opposition saying that the BJP is ‘playing politics of colour’. “The government is busy doing politics of colour. They are busy painting buildings, boundaries, parks and so on in saffron colour. Now they are getting exposed by changing the colour of Ambedkar statue to saffron”, Samajwadi party spokesperson Sunil Singh Sajan is said to have told.
