A team of cabinet sub-committee on setting up a 125 ft tall Ambedkar statue is heading for a three-day tour to Sikkim to finalize the modalities. Committee Chairman Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari will lead the team comprising ministers G Jagadish Reddy and Nayani Narsimha Reddy, GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, TSPSC Chairman G Chakrapani along with some technical experts and officials from September 11 to 13.
The study tour of the committee assumes significance followed by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s decision to set up the statue and take up year-long Ambedkar Jayanthi programs across the State. The team will pay a visit to “Ravangla” a place where 130ft tall Buddha statue was established and also a park, meditation center and museum. Srihari team is likely to interact with the officials concerned in Sikkim and take steps accordingly to set up Ambedkar statue in Telangana.
On return, the committee will submit a report to the government. KCR is to take a final call on studying the report. The Government has plans to set up the tallest statue of the Constitution architect in the heart of Hyderabad near NTR Marg along with park, meditation center and museum. Telangana SC Development department Director Dr MV Reddy, Roads & Buildings Chief Engineer Ganapathi Reddy, JNTUC Sculptor B Srinivas Reddy, HMDA chief engineer BN Reddy, GHMC Chief Engineer Subhash Singh will accompany the committee.
