Amar Singh bats for Mayawati in UP polls

New Delhi, January 07: Former leader of Samajwadi Party Amar Singh
today said his newly-formed Lok Manch Party will support Mayawati’s
ruling Bahujan Samaj Party in the coming UP Assembly polls.

“Of course, I support Mayawati as she has supported our cause in
taking the lead in carving out Poorvanchal from Uttar Pradesh,”
an ailing Amar Singh told a TV news channel in an interview. Stating that even Mayawati took the lead in this regard purely on political reasons, he said she did what ”we really wanted for the overall development of backward
Poorvanchal region.”

Replying to a question, Amar Singh said even though Mayawati
has not given him time for a meeting, he still feels that BSP has an
edge over SP as there is no charge against her other than
corruption. “Thus it is not possible for Congress to pin her down on
this ground as it is also in the soup due to series of scams like
2G and CWG.” He, however, wished the Congress would form the
government.

The former strongman of Samajwadi Party said despite all-out
effort to grab power in the last elections, the SP was able to
muster barely 142 seats.

That was thetime when SP had leaders from all castes and communities and was
also getting support from stars like Sanjay Dutt. The situation has
changed since then, he felt.

Asked if he would rejoin the Samajwadi Party, he said, “I can beg
on the street, but it is unthinkable for me to join SP once again,”
he told in an interview.
