Alzheimer’s disease: Drug-free treatment to reverse symptoms soon

Queensland: Researchers at Queensland Brain Institute had successfully reversed the symptoms of dementia in animals without using any drugs. Now, Federal Minister for Health, Australia has announced a fund of $10 million to the researchers for the purpose of testing their technique on humans.

According to the report on the website of the World Economic Forum, researchers’ technique is based on ultrasound technology.

It may be mentioned that the waves of ultrasound temporarily open blood-brain barrier thereby resulting in clearance of toxic amyloid plaques.

This technique proved successful in mice and sheep. The testing on humans is expected in this year.

It may be noted that before the therapy is made available to everyone, it has to undergo many safety tests.
