Alwar: The two companions of murdered cow trader, Umar Mohammad, have been arrested by the police, on charges of cow smuggling, officials said on Monday.
Umar was killed and his body was thrown on the railway tracks in Ramgarh area. However, his two associates, Tahir Khan and Javed Khan managed to survive as a group of armed cow vigilantes allegedly fired at them.
The incident had taken place on November 10, when Javed was hit by a bullet and Tahir could escape, Umar died on the spot.
The assistant superintendent of police, Alwar, Anil Beniwal said the cow purchase done by Umar and Khan was illegal.
“During interrogation, Khan and Javed have said that they bought the cows from members of the Rewari community near Dausa. Such purchase is illegal as mostly stray cows are herded and sold by the community members without any valid documents,” Beniwal told the Hindustan Times.
The police had earlier arrested Bhagwan Singh Gurjar and Ramveer Gurjar in this connection. Four other men are absconding, said Beniwal.
Meanwhile, the police have maintained that the trio was smuggling cows and both parties opened fire at each other. They further said that Umar and Khan have already got past cases against them, including cow smuggling charges and other offences.
On the other hand, Umar’s relatives said cow vigilantes were responsible for his murder and alleged that the police were hand in glove with them.
