NEW DELHI: Earlier this month, a 55-year-old dairy farmer died at a hospital in Alwar district after being beaten by a group of right-wing terrorists posing themselves as cow protectors.
The deceased, Pehlu Khan, and four others, including his two sons, were beaten brutally by some locals at Behror who suspected they were smuggling cows.
Khan’s 85-year-old mother, who can’t see due to lost eyesight, is in Delhi to demand justice for his son.
Ankuri Beegam is currently protesting at Jantar Mantar in front of a hoarding with the message, “Mother of Pehlu Khan, Ankuri Beegam, demands justice.”
An old and visibly weak Ankuri told reporters, “It has been more than two weeks and authorities are yet to arrest the accused. I want justice for my son, who was an innocent man and died a brutal death.”
“My nephew was beaten mercilessly to death even though he had the documents to prove he legally purchased the cattle. The government, instead of arresting the accused, is trying to protect them. If we don’t get justice soon, I, along with all my family members will commit suicide,” Hussain told Hindustan Times.
Unfortunately, her desperate plea for justice has fallen on the deaf ears of the members of media fraternity, which is alleged to have surrendered its freedom before the current BJP government at the Centre.
Leader of Opposition in Rajasthan Assembly, Rameshwar Dudi demanded ban on the Bajrang Dal and the VHP accusing them of trying to fuel communal tension in the state in the name of cow protection.
On the Alwar lynching case, he said, “People belonging to the minority communities rear cows in various parts of the state. But organisations like the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bajrang Dal want to decide on the basis of religion that who will rear cows, which is unacceptable.”
These outfits are trying to fuel communal tension and spread terror in the name of cow protection. These organisations should be banned, Dudi said.
“State Congress president Sachin Pilot had demanded a CBI inquiry in the matter and we will raise the issue in the state Assembly,” he said in a press conference here.
