Alwal police crack rape, murder case

Hyderabad, February 07: A small empty cover of a photo studio lying in litter helped the Alwal police of Cyberabad on Saturday catch the accused in the rape and murder of a housewife reported a fortnight ago.

Hussain, Pasha and Aqil, all in their early 20s and hailing from Turkakashingar of Kodimyal mandal in Karimnagar district, were arrested for murdering Revathi, the Alwal ACP, Prabhakar Reddy, told a press conference. Hussain was also charged with sexually assaulting her.

Revathi was living with her husband, Hari Krishna, a private security guard, in a rented portion in Arundhati colony of Malkaram village in Alwal. The couple has two children. Hussain and Pasha took the vacant portion in the same house on rent in the first week of January.

Their friend, Aqil, used to come to meet them regularly. Hussain and Aqil noticed that Revathi was alone in the house when her husband went to work. On January 25, they attacked the woman resulting in bleeding injuries. As the housewife slumped on the floor, the duo collected the jewellery she wore, ransacked the house and collected Rs. 10,000 from the almirah. Hussain raped the woman, who was in semi-conscious condition, the ACP said. Later, the trio strangled her to death with a wire.

While searching the area , the police stumbled upon an empty cover of a photo studio located in Gangadhara of Karimnagar district. A special team, led by Sub-Inspector Ram Reddy, went to Gangadhara and found that the number written on the cover pertained to the photograph of Pasha. On being taken into custody, Pasha admitted to the offence.
