Allow filmmakers to function freely: Jaya Bachchan

Bengaluru: Veteran Bollywood actress and Rajya Sabha member Jaya Bachchan today said filmmakers should be given the freedom to think and act for the betterment of the industry and there should be no government interference.

“I have a request sir (Chief Minister Siddaramaih) that is the government’s work is to help. Keep as it is. Please allow filmmakers, film activists and students, to function freely without any government intereference,” she said.

Addressing the inaugural function of Bengaluru International Film Festival here, she said the filmmakers should be given the freedom to think and act for betterment of film industry.

Expressing the hope that Siddaramaiah’s help and encouragement would take the Kannda film industry to greater heights, she said “I will convey this message to my colleagues in Mumbai that come to Karnataka for shooting, often.”

Talking about two incidents involving her husband and legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan during his visits to the city, she said she would urge him to visit the city for shooting.

Amitabh Bachchan had survived an accident during the shoot for the film “Coolie” in 1980s and his ABCL company incurred huge financial loss due to problems faced by it when it organised the Miss World event here in 1990s.
