Allama Iqbal: a story, a lesson

Allama Iqbal was on a visit to Europe. One evening he was enjoying the sight of children playing in a park. Suddenly he caught sight of a child in a corner who was busy studying. Allama Iqbal was surprised. He was fully aware of child psychology hence it was a bit strange to see a child studying. He felt the child was extraordinary.

He went near the child and asked him, don’t you like to play. Child’s reply amazed Allama Iqbal further. ‘We are a handful in the world. If I would waste my time playing my community will be wiped out. I have to save my community.’

Allama asked, which community do you belong to?
The child said I am a Jew.
Allah Iqbal was speechless to see the determination of the child.

His mind travelled to another world and tears began rolling down his cheeks.
His mind began touring to the stories of victories of Unan, Spain, Egypt and Iran till they are lost.
Maybe his heart was screaming. Alas! my community. Alas! our children.
I am searching ‘Shaheen’ in you but the eagles are being fostered in Jew families.
