Allahabad, August 24: The Allahabad High Court today refused to stay the arrest of BJP MP Ramakant Yadav in connection with an FIR lodged against him in Azamgarh district on August 12.
A division bench comprising Justices Ravindra Singh and Y C Gupta rejected the BJP MP’s anticipatory bail plea and directed him to surrender before the court concerned.
On August 12, Yadav’s supporters had opened fire on Ulema Council activists, when Council president Amir Rasidi’s vehicle refused to give a pass to the vehicle of the BJP MP.
As a result, clash broke out between the two groups, in which a 20-year-old Abdul Rahman was killed and three others were wounded.
Police had lodged an FIR against Yadav under section 302 and 307 of IPC at the Phoolpur police station of Azamgargh and a warrant was issued for his arrest. They had also raided his Azamgarh residence twice but could not find him.
