All police stations to have biometric scanning

Hyderabad, January 01: In the coming year, all the police stations in the State will have biometric identification system.

Immediately after nabbing a criminal, the police will scan the fingerprints of the accused using a biometric scanning machine, instead of the existing system of rolled fingerprints using ink. The scanned data will be stored at police computer services data base.

“As and when a suspect is picked up, he will be asked to give his fingerprints using biometric scanner. Immediately, the investigating officer will be given the data about the suspect and his criminal background by cross checking with the stored data,” T Krishna Prasad, Director for Police Communication and Inspector General of Police, Computer Services and Standardisation, said.

From January 1 citizens can lodge online complaints about any crime and criminals with or without disclosing their identity at http://apstatepolice.

org. Similarly from the New Year, the entire investigation will be online besides providing FIR and chargesheet.

The State police have developed an investigating tool `Third Eye’ to help the investigating officer by providing information within seconds.

Since all the applications have been made web enabled, senior police officers can access the information instantly.
