All-party team seeks aid for rain-hit ryots

Hyderabad, December 04: An all-party delegation today urged chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to see that the enumeration of crop loss due to the recent rains is completed immediately.

The team led by TDP leader Tammineni Sitaram today called on the chief minister at Secretariat.

The Opposition planned a road blockade on Dec 11 in the state on farmers’ problems.

The delegation urged the chief minister to open paddy purchase centres in all mandals and permit exports of BPT variety rice. They demanded Rs 5,000 towards input subsidy to farmers of bengalgram and other crops.

They alleged that paddy farmers were resorting to distress sale as traders were not offering the minimum support prices.

The farmers were selling a quintal of paddy for around Rs 600, they explained.

They also pointed out that the Centre had increased MSP by Rs 20 for wheat.

Tamil Naidu, Kerala and Karnataka governments had announced Rs 100 to Rs 200 bonus for paddy farmers, a similar gesture was due from the State government, they said. Lok Satta, CPI, CPM, RSP and CPI(ML) New Democracy leaders were among the team.
