In what is called a face saving mood, the state government is all set to call an all party meeting on the contentious Krishna surplus waters issue followed by a verdict from Brijesh Kumar Tribunal. Besides facing a stiff opposition from home turf and opposition parties alike, the government is now planning to take opinions from all the parties and then move Supreme Court for a review.
Minister Pitani Satyanarayana said the verdict was nothing but a sound of death knell for the State as about Rs 32,000 crores spent on projects over Krishna will prove waste. Telugu Desam Chief N Chandrababu Naidu slammed the government for failing to argue efficiently for rightful share.
Major Irrigation Minister P Sudershan Reddy said the government will call an all party meeting in a week and then move Supreme Court on the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal verdict.
Addressing a media conference at his chambers here, he clarified that they have argued the case perfectly well before the tribunal. However, the government is not happy with the verdict, he said, adding that they would elicit opinions from engineers on the issue. The minister tried to defend himself as the opposition is heavily coming down on the government for failing to get rightful share of waters. (NSS)
