New Delhi, January 06: BJP today described the all-party meeting on the Telangana issue called by the Centre as a “100 per cent failure” and demanded that if the Congress-led UPA was serious about formation of a separate state, it should bring a Bill on the matter in the forthcoming budget session of Parliament.
“We don’t want any more meetings. The all-party meeting was 100 per cent failure,” party leader Bandaru Dattatraya, who represented BJP in the all-party meeting, told reporters here.
Dattatraya said Home Minister P Chidambaram had only assured them after the meeting that he will apprise the Prime Minister about the details of the meeting and get back to them.
He accused the government of having no concrete plan and of having called this meeting only to buy time.
“BJP is in favour of Telangana. Government should bring a Bill on Telangana in the Budget session of Parliament. That will make the roadmap clear,” Dattatraya said.
He said it was for the government to decide the roadmap and mechanism for formation of the state.
BJP maintained that most political parties in Andhra Pradesh had done a volte-face on Telangana. “The Home Minister gave compliments to BJP for its clarity on Telangana,” Dattatraya said.
BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar insisted that “unfortunately” Congress was responsible for the mess on Telangana due to its “inner contradictions”.
