All party meeting on by-polls on Thursday

Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal on Wednesday informed that an all-party meeting would be held on Thursday to discuss the arrangements for the by-polls to be held in 18 assembly and one Parliament seats on June 12.

Bhanwarlal said that eight recognised political parties have been invited for the meeting. However, he said YSR Congress and Lok Satta, which are yet to get Election Commission’s recognition, were officially not invited, but they could submit their representations.

Further, a video-conference with the Collectors and Superintendants of Police of 11 election-bound districts will also be held on Thursday. Bhanwarlal said that the security arrangements, law and orders and voters’ list would be main points in the agenda to be discussed during the video-conference.

Bhanwarlal informed that the Election Commission was making efforts to ensure that all eligible voters enroll themselves in the electoral rolls. He said several discrepancies were found in urban areas due to frequent of migration of voters to different areas. To deal with the situation, he said the enrolment in the voters’ lists would be simplified in future and all e-Seva Centres would be authorised to accept applications for the same. He said the programme would be first implemented in Hyderabad on pilot basis and later, it would be extended to all districts in the State.
