Hyderabad, January 28: The state government will convene an all-party meeting here on February 4 to deliberate on the recommendations of experts on the petition to be filed before the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal (KWDT) seeking certain explanations over its verdict on distribution of Krishna river waters.
Irrigation experts also will participate in the meeting. Prior to the all-party meeting, officials of the irrigation department will hold a meeting with irrigation experts to seeking their advice on issues to be taken up with the tribunal while filing the petition on distribution of Krishna river waters.
The irrigation department invited irrigation experts to elicit their views on the tribunal’s verdict and give suggestions to take up the state government’s concerns with the tribunal which gave three months’ time for filing a review petition after delivering its verdict on December 30. But there was lukewarm response from experts.
The government, therefor, decided to approach some well-known irrigation experts in the state to seek their advice on preparing a strong case for the state before the KWDT.
Officials intend to file the petition before the tribunal in the second or third week of February.
The KWDT awarded 1,001 tmcft of Krishna water for Andhra Pradesh, 911 tmcft for Karnataka and 666 tmcft for Maharashtra from the 2,578 tmcft of assured water. Further, it also ruled that the surplus water being used by Andhra Pradesh be shared with Karnataka and Maharashtra.
