All Party Committee on ‘Swachh Hyderabad’ review HMWSSB activities

The All Party Committee, constituted for Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), as part of the Swachh Hyderabad campaign toured some areas of the city on Saturday to know the first hand information on some civic issues.

They visited Dobhi Ghat Nala, Ashok Nagar Dumping Yard, Kachiguda Nala, Fever Hospital Nala, Narayanaguda Nala, Mohmmed Guda(Varasi Guda) Nala etc., mainly pertaining to GHMC.

Later, a meeting was held at Tourism Plaza which was chaired by Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy and attended by Excise Minister T Padma Rao, TRS MP K Keshava Rao, BJP MLAs Dr. K. Laxman and Chintala Rama Chandra Reddy, GHMC Commissioner and Special Officer Somesh Kumar, GHMC Special Commissioner Navin Mittal, HMWSSB Managing Director M Jagadeeshwar and other senior officers of both HMWSSB and GHMC.

The Committee observed that they found some bottlenecks during their tour mainly in water supply, sewerage, storm water drainage systems, Nala encroachments etc., and directed the officials concerned to remove these bottlenecks by drafting an action-Plan having immediate, short term and long term beneficial impact on the citizenry of GHMC areas. For example, the Committee suggested that the HMWWSB could start alternate day water supply as an immediate benefit.

The Committee directed the Special Officer, GHMC and Managing Director, HMWSSB to submit a draft joint report on the above action-Plan strategy along with financial requirement, Staff requirements etc., by Monday, so as to enable the Committee to submit a final report to the Government. (INN)
