Legislative Affairs Minister T Harish Rao on Wednesday asserted that the election of Legislative Council chairman was conducted in conformity with the rules and established norms.
Talking to mediapersons, Harish Rao said the information about the Council chairman’s election to all the members of the Council on June 29. He also said he had clearly informed the members that the election of the chairman would be conducted in secret ballot method. However, the government was ready to make any changes suggested by the members if they would enhance prestige of the Upper House, he added.
The Legislative Affairs Minister exhorted the members of the Upper House to express happiness for a weaker section person being elected as chairman of the Council. He also alleged that some members had tried to distort the legislative procedures. (NSS)
