All leaders should be invited to Congress’ conference on Nehru, says Samajwadi Party

The Samajwadi Party on Wednesday said that leaders from all the political parties should be invited for the birth anniversary celebrations of former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru as he belongs to the entire nation.

“I think that when you are celebrating the 125th birth anniversary of such a tall leader, leaders from all the political parties should be invited. He belongs to the entire nation,” said Samajwadi Party spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia.

” Jawaharlal Nehruji was the tallest leader of the country and he lives in the heart of every Indian,” he added.

The Samajwadi Party spokesperson’s comment came following reports that the Congress party has not invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the celebrations.

Congress leader Rashid Alvi had earlier said that his party did not extend an invitation to Prime Minister Modi as it only wanted to invite ‘like-minded’ people.

The conference on Nehru, which is to take place from November 17-18, will be attended by leaders of various political parties from India and abroad.

Congress leader Anand Sharma had earlier announced that the conference will discuss Nehru’s view on democracy, inclusion, empowering India and representative global order.

The conference will be chaired by party chief Sonia Gandhi. (ANI)
