The historic Falaknuma Palace is once again in the headlines; this time for the wedding function of Salman Khan’s sister.
The beautiful edifice belongs to Asif Jahi Sultanate. Earlier Sultan Mohammed Quli Qutub Shah had built a 3-storied building named Mahal-e-Koh-e-Tur. After the end of Qutub Shahi Sultanate the ‘Mahal’ also collapsed like other structures. Again Nawab Iqbal-ud-Daula laid the foundation stone of the magnificent palace in 1841. The palace was built on 35 acre land with the cost of Rs. 40 lakh. It took 8 years for the palace to complete.
Iqbal-ud-Daula (Viqar ul Umra), prime minister of Hyderabad used the palace till 1896 later Mir Mahboob Ali Khan bought it. He died in the palace in 1911.
On November 13, 2010 Taj Group of Hotels took the magnificent palace on lease and changed it into the largest luxury hotel of Asian continent.
