All CongressT MPs, MLAs, MLCs decide to resign

Hyderabad, February 16: In order to send a message to their constituents that they remain committed to the Telangana cause, Telangana Congress MPs, MLAs and MLCs have decided to submit their resignations to party president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

So far only two MLAs, R Damodar Reddy and Ch Muthyam Reddy, have submitted their resignations to the Speaker who is yet to act on them. Meanwhile, AICC leader and incharge of AP Congress affairs Veerappa Moily spoke to the two leaders and urged them to withdraw their resignations but the duo stuck to their guns, saying they were accountable to people.

The other MLAs have decided to write a letter to Sonia Gandhi explaining the demand for separate Telangana state and the pressure building on them to prove their commitment by quitting the Assembly. The Telangana Congress leaders want their party president to find a solution to the problem they are encountering in their constituencies if they have to abide by the high command’s direction and not quit the Assembly.

They want to suggest to her that she could help them out by amending the terms of reference of the Justice BN Srikrishna Committee to give `clarity’ on Telangana. Besides, they want the committee’s time-frame reduced to a maximum of six months (as against 10 months 17 days now).

Ministers K Venkat Reddy, J Krishna Rao and D Sridhar Babu, and former minister K Jana Reddy were among those who attended a meeting at a hotel here tonight.

They are learnt to have urged the party MLAs not to take the hasty decision of quitting the Assembly but to leave the issue to the Centre.
