All Chhath Puja ghats to be ready by November: Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who chaired a review meeting on Thursday about the preparedness of ghats for the upcoming Chhath Puja, said that all ghats would be ready by November.

The meeting was attended by Aam Aadmi Party’s Burari lawmakerSanjeev Jha and officials of the Irrigation and Flood Control (IFC) Department.

Kejriwal discussed various aspects of the Puja and the readiness of the IFC department. He went through the list of the prepared ghats and those under progress.

He vowed that all the under-progress ghats would get ready by November for the Puja.

In the meeting, the department submitted that they were well-prepared and all the ghats would be ready in time for the Puja.

“Last year, Delhi had more than 600 well-equipped Chhath Ghats for the Puja,” said a statement from Kejriwal’s office, adding that the Chief Minister told the officials that there should be no dearth of ghats for the Puja and all proposals for ghats should be executed well in time.

Mainly celebrated in Bihar, Chhath Puja is dedicated to the worship of the Sun god and his wife Usha. During the occasion, devotees perform puja to thank the god for bestowing the bounties of life on earth.

The puja is historically native to the Indian states of Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh as well as the Madhesh region of Nepal.

This year, it will be celebrated on November 13.
