Sri Lanka’s Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya on Tuesday said all arrangements are in place to hold free and fair presidential elections on January 8.
Deshapriya was quoted by the Lanka Page web site, as saying, that the ballot boxes will be handed over to the distribution centers today and the transfer of ballot boxes from the distribution centers to the counting centers will commence Wednesday morning.
Voting will take place from seven in the morning till four in the evening, and all voters have been requested to arrive at the polling booth as early as possible to exercise their right to vote.
The Election Department would take action to ensure every voter’s confidentiality, he added.
He urged offices in both the public and private sectors to grant leave to their employees to enable them to vote on Friday.
