AGRA: Uttar Pradesh police on Sunday arrested a 21-year-old youth after the kin of the young man and some right-wing organizations created a flutter at the police station alleging forced conversion.
According to Times Of India reports, the police arrested Ved Prakash under section 151 of the CrPC after a complaint filed by his family alleging that “their son was influenced by a Muslim girl and forced to convert” even though he confessed that he became a Muslim on his own free will.
According to police, Ved, who changed his name to Aadil after conversion is a resident of Baraula Jafrabad area of the district. He left Hinduism and converted to Islam eight months ago while he worked in a furniture shop in the Nagla Patwari area.
The matter came to light on Saturday when the newly converted express his desire to marry a Muslim girl from the neighbourhood.
When the young man’s family came to know about this, they contacted the right wing organization together lodged a police complaint against the girl’s family.
Aadil rebuffs the allegations leveled by his family and said, “No one forced me to convert. I have embraced Islam and have no regrets about it. What is wrong in that?” reported TOI.
Ajay Kumar Sahni, SSP, Aligarh, said that the youth has admitted to accept Islam without any pressure and even underwent circumcision.
The police arrested one more person named Kharram along with Ved Prakash alias Adil.
In his statement to officers, Khurram said, “I have known Aadil for only a fortnight. We had offered namaz together a couple of times in the past.”
