ALIGARH: One person, belonging to the minority community was killed and 10 others were injured in a clash between members of two communities over construction of a toilet, the police said today.
The incident took place at Khurrampur village in communally-sensitive Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday afternoon.
Five persons have been arrested in connection with the incident that took place yesterday.
Giving details, District Magistrate Rishikesh Bhaskar said the two groups clashed after the landowner along with some people tried to demolish the “illegally” constructed toilet.
Omprakash had bought land adjoining a mosque 7-8 years back. Now he found a toilet constructed on his land. He had also registered a complaint in this regard. The matter was taken to court and the verdict was in favour of Omprakash.
Armed with the court order, Omprakash and his associates arrived on the spot to demolish the toilet near the mosque without informing the police which triggered the clash in which both sides opened fire and threw bricks at each other.
18-year-old Haseen Khan was killed in the clash. Omprakash and Ramveer were among the 10 injured, while the condition of Mohabbat Ali and one more person is stated to be serious.
The injured have been admitted at the hospitals. The situation is tense but under control after deployment of Force and Rapid Action Force (RAF) in and around mosque in Khurramnagar village.
FIRs have been lodged from both sides blaming each other for the communal clash. Authorities have launched a probe into the matter.
