Algeria Man jailed for dangling baby from window to get Facebook ‘Likes’

Africa: Most of the people crave for Facebook likes. It is the driving passion of some social media users. They desire it. They dream about it and somehow think that more Facebook likes is the panacea for all of the world’s ills.

Similarly a man in Algeria posted a video of a baby dangling out of a building window which was on the 15th floor in a bid to get 1,000 likes.

The man captioned the video “1,000 likes or I will drop him.” He was sentenced to two years in prison this week and has been charged with endangering a baby’s safety Al Arabiya English reported.

In the video the baby was held by only a single t-shirt. The child was reported to be in a state of fear and bewilderment.

However, the man has denied putting the baby’s life at risk and claimed that the photo had been digitally altered to make the child look as though they were in danger.

“The picture was taken in a balcony with protective barriers. These were removed,” he reportedly said.

The baby’s father asked the court to forgive the man, but the judge ignored those pleas and ruled that he had put the child’s life in danger.
