Forty-one people traveling in an RTC bus from Karimnagar to Hyderabad had a miraculous escape due to the timely action of the alert driver after another AC Volvo bus caught fire on the outskirts of Kondapaka village in Medak district on Tuesday.
According to the information, the ill-fated APSRTC bus “Indra” left Karimnagar-II depot with 41 passengers. As the bus was nearing Kondapaka village, the driver noticed smoke emanating from the engine. He immediately stopped the bus and asked the passengers to get down quickly. He even alerted the nearby Fire Service station. However, even before the fire tenders could reach the spot, the bus was gutted. Thanks to the alertness of the bus driver, the passengers escaped unhurt though their luggage was completely gutted.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that the fire might have been caused due to short-circuit. The passengers were sent to Hyderabad in another bus. (NSS)
