Lucknow, August 12: An alert has been sounded and steps are being taken to beef up security around important public places across Uttar Pradesh ahead of independence day.
“IGs, DIGs and SSPs have been asked to maintain extra vigil and beef up security at public places including railway stations and bus stands, airports, market places, cinema halls, and malls to check terrorist, communal or any criminal act on the independence day,” Additional DGP (law and order) A K Jain told reporters here.
Anti-sabotage checks will be carried out at all places where flag hoisting ceremony will be performed besides deployment of Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) units in sensitive districts, he said.
The police has been asked to verify credentials of tenants besides checking guest houses, hotels and lodges in areas inhabited by suspected “Bangladeshi nationals”, he said.
Checking of shops from where chemicals like ammonium nitrate can be procured will be conducted and their stocks verified, he said.
“Manufacturers of printed circuit boards will be identified and they will be asked to inform the police if any person contacts for bulk supply of boards,” he said.
To prevent the possibility of transportation of explosives through rail route surprise checks in trains have been ordered, the ADG said.
