New Delhi, April 03: Cricket lovers in the city have guzzled alcohol to the tune of Rs 26 crore in the last four days, beginning Wednesday when India thrashed their arch-rival Pakistan in the World Cup semifinal at Mohali.
“The total sale of alcohol on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday was around Rs 26 crore,” a senior excise department official of the Delhi government said.
The figure may go up as total sales figure of Saturday has not been fully compiled as it was a holiday, he added.
Out of the total sale of alcohol, beer sold the most.
India beating Pakistan in the semi-final in Mohali spurred the celebrations which led to significant rise in consumption of alcohol.
He said all the beer and wine shops registered huge sales yesterday, as India took on Sri Lanka in the final of the cricket World Cup.
Asked about specific figure, he said “not yet compiled.
