Baghdad, January 14:Thirteen suspect members of the Al Qaeda terrorist organization escaped from a prison in Basra at dawn Friday, Iraqi state television said.
Iraqi security officials said the army and police had both launched search parties. No details about how the men escaped were given.
The prison, located about 550 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, was formerly a presidential palace.
