Abu Dhabi, April 01: The Western Region Municipality inaugurated a 2.5-kilometre long walkway for the residents of Al Mirfa. The walkway was inaugurated by Abdullah Mohair Al Ketbi, undersecretary of the Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region.
The project consists of main walkways of 2.4 metres width and corridors of 1.2 metres. The walking track is lined with local palm and ghaf trees on either side and overlooks the sea.
Hamoud Humaid Al Mansouri, Director General of the Western Region Municipality, Mosabbah Mubarak Al Marar, executive director of the services sector of cities and suburb of Al Mirfa City and Rakan Mohammed Al Marar, Director of parks and recreational facilities in Al Mirfa, and other officials of the region were present on the occasion. The opening of the walkway is part of a series of projects that has to be carried out in Al Mirfa by the municipality in accordance with its strategic plan.
The municipality aims to complete the construction of 42 public parks in the entire region. Of this 14 parks are in Madinat Zayed, 10 in Sila, seven in Ghayathi, five in Liwa, four in Al Mirfa and two parks in Delma, Al Mansouri said.
Al Mansouri appreciated the support and attention provided by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. The walkways were built as per the requirements of the residents in the city so as to provide them better space for recreational activities, Al Mansouri added. It is very important to create such facilities for the public, Al Mansouri said.
