Mumbai, March 25: Vashu Bhagnani has approached Akshay Kumar to feature in his production Faltu. The project is meant to relaunch his son Jackky after his disastrous debut Kal Kissne Dekha, which released last year.
Says a source, “Vashu is keen to have a big star in the film alongside his son. He recently requested Akshay to step in.”
Faltu will be directed by choreographer Remo and cast Jackky opposite beauty pageant winner Pooja Chopra. Akshay has a pivotal role in the film that takes on the educational system and career choices.
Interestingly, this is the same role that Sanjay Dutt was slated to do in Faltu. The actor had done an item number in Kal Kissne Dekha. Due to his rapport with Vashu, he had agreed to do Faltu. Later, however, he opted out citing date issues. But buzz was that Dutt walked out of the film when he realised that Vashu did not include his friend and manager Dharam Oberoi’s daughter, Neha, in Faltu. Neha had starred in Woodstock Villa opposite Sikandar Kher. Vashu decided to sign Pooja Chopra instead.
Adds the source, “Vashu approached other top stars for the project as well. But now, he’s keen on having Akki.”
Vashu however maintains, “I am currently in New Delhi and will finalise things when I am back. At the moment, we are working on the script. No one has been finalised as yet.”
So is Akshay doing the role that was to be done by Sanjay Dutt?
Vashu says, “Sanjay was not doing the film. I don’t know where all this came from.”
The source continues, “Vashu has already spoken to Akshay. The actor has been briefed about his characterisaton.”
