Mumbai, May 03: HOUSEFULL has taken the biggest opening ever of Akshay’s career, hence giving a good start for him in the New Year. Early estimates indicate that the film’s opening weekend is in the range of 33-35 crores, hence ensuring that at the least, the film will net 50 crores just from India at the end of one week run. This means that the film would surpass the 40 crores plus record created by Akshay’s KAMBAKKHT ISHQ and hence make him the only actor other than Aamir Khan whose films (3 IDIOTS, GHAJINI) who has managed to cross the 50 crores milestone in one week flat.
As per an official statement from EROS, the co-producers of HOUSEFULL along with Sajid Nadiadwala, ‘the multi starrer has netted 10 crores on Friday and 11.8 crores on Saturday’. While official collections of Sunday would be released soon, the film can expect at the minimum 12 crores coming in, hence making a 35 crores first weekend a definite possibility.
While HOUSEFULL is a plus film by all means, it would be interesting to see how the film sustains in weeks to come. Having said that, the film will certainly boast of collections better than last big money spinner in Bollywood – MY NAME IS KHAN (which had netted around 70 crores). However, the film’s march towards the 100 crores total (if at all it manages to achieve such business) would be closely monitored.
With BADMAASH COMPANY as the only notable release till 21st May (when KITES strikes), there are good enough chances for HOUSEFULL to enjoy a prolonged stay in a massive number of screens for three weeks at stretch.
