Gorakhpur: Hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of an AIIMS here, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav took to Twitter to remind the people that it was the Samajwadi Party (SP) that provided the land for the project for free.
“At Gorakhpur, where land for AIIMS given free of cost.
Land for AIIMS at Raibareli was also given free of cost by UP,” he wrote using his official Twitter handle @yadavakhilesh.
Several hoardings were seen in Gorakhpur city “thanking” Akhilesh for providing the “free land” for AIIMS.
“We thank the young CM of UP for providing free land for AIIMS here,” said one the hoardings erected at a prominent place in the city by SP MLC Santosh Yadav Sunny.
Earlier in the day, Modi gave credit for AIIMS and revival of fertiliser plants to the people of Uttar Pradesh.
“You have elected a government at the Centre which believes in working. The credit goes to you all. If you elect a government keeping in mind your interests, the government also keeps that in mind and works on them,” he said, adding, “We will not let your children die.”
Getting an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) had been a political issue in the region where thousands of people, including children, died in the past decades due to the absence of a super-speciality hospital.
