Akbar Owaisi attack: Police recover weapon from Wahlan

Hyderabad, May 14: Police have recovered the second weapon, a country-made revolver, used in the attack on MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisis on April 30.

Acting on the confession made by Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Wahlan, an accused in the attack, the police reportedly found the weapon and two live rounds at Omar Function Hall, owned by Mohammed bin Omar Al-Yafai alias Mohammed Pahelwan, the mastermind behind the attack.

Wahlan reportedly confessed to the police that he fired from his country-made revolver at Akbaruddin and later hid the weapon at Omar Function Hall. However, he did not say the number of rounds he fired at Akbaruddin and whether the victim or any other person was hit. He also told the police that he helped Ibrahim bin Younus in attacking Akbaruddin with a dagger.

Wahlan, Pahelwan’s nephew, went underground after the attack but police were able to pick him up on May 3 but was declared arrested only on May 12.

Meanwhile, R Rambabu, supervisor at Apollo Hospital, DRDO, said that the medical staff had removed blood soaked clothes of Abdullah and Awadh, the assailants who were shot at by a personal security guard, and handed them over to Wahlan. Wahlan destroyed evidence at the direction of Pahelwan, the police said.
