Akali leader Naresh Kataria joins Congress

New Delhi: Naresh Kataria and a number of other Akali leaders, along with their supporters, today joined Congress, expressing disillusionment with the Shiromani Akali Dal.

Welcoming the new joinees into the party fold here, Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh said the exodus from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and others, including the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), would continue and many more disgruntled leaders and workers of these parties would join Congress.

He said the Congress would be further strengthened with the joining of Kataria and other Akali leaders and supporters.

Kataria had left the Congress to join SAD in 2012, and decided to return to Congress fold.

Jagmohan Singh ‘Babbu’ Ghuman, SAD ex-circle president Dasuya, was also among those who joined the Congress, giving the party a major boost in the Dasuya region, where he is said to have a strong hold.

Others who joined the Punjab Congress on the occasion included District President YAD Hoshiarpur (Urban & Rural) Karambir Singh Ghuman, Chairman PADB Bank Dasuya Karandip Singh Sian, three Directors of PADB Bank Dasuya, seven Dasuya Municipal Councillors, six Block Samiti Members, all SAD Circle President YAD Dasuya, some Sarpanches and Nambardars.
