Vice Chairmen and Managing Director APSRTC A K Khan on Monday warned the corporation’s employees of stern action if they indulge in drunken driving. He said that those who drive vehicles in inebriated condition would not be spared and appropriate action would be initiated against them to ensure the safety of the RTC Commuters.
Addressing after inaugurating the “Safety Week” program at RTC Bus Depot at Rani Jung, Khan advised the RTC drivers to ensure their good health and take some rest along with their duties. He also advised drivers to perform double duties only during emergencies as additional work and sleeplessness would severely affect their health. He said that the employees should not think that the service was everything for them and they must also attend to their social needs.
Khan asserted that maintenance of the buses was also necessary for a safe journey. He also warned that disciplinary action would be taken against the mechanical staff if they fail to keep the busses in better condition.
Transport Commissioner Sanjay Kumar said that Andhra Pradesh ranks top in the country in number of accidents involving public transport buses. He stressed the need to control the accidents in the State and said that Safety Week program would play a big role in spreading awareness among the RTC employees. He also stressed the need for similar programmes for private operators.
RTC Executive Director A Koteshwar Rao also spoke on this occasion.
