Ajmer suspect petitions against narco test on him

Jaipoor, May 07: Devendra Gupta, a suspect in the Ajmer bomb blast, filed a petition in an Ajmer court against the proposed narco analysis and brain mapping test on him by the Rajasthan Anti- Terrorist Squad ( ATS).

The move comes in the wake of the Supreme Court verdict which termed these tests unconstitutional. The apex court said the provisions can only be carried out after a person’s consent.

Gupta was recently arrested and remanded in custody till May 12. He is suspected of having procured mobile phone SIM cards used in the explosion at the Dargah which killed persons and wounded 30 others.

He is also said to have links with Hindutva militant outfit Abhinav Bharat.

The Ajmer session court will hear the petition on Friday. Gupta claimed in his petition that the ATS did not take his consent before conducting the tests.

Ajmer additional chief judicial magistrate had granted the ATS permission to carry out the tests after it had moved an application in this regard on Saturday.

Gupta, a resident of Ajmer, was arrested on April 29 when he had gone to meet his ailing mother, ATS officials said.

He was later produced before the Ajmer chief judicial magistrate who remanded him in police custody till May 12.
