Rashtriya Lok Dal president and Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh on Sunday reiterated that he would extend complete support to the Telangana movement at the Centre.
Talking to reporters after attending the breakfast meeting at Congress MP Madhu Yaskhi Goud’s residence at Banjara Hills, Ajit Singh said that his party was always in favour of smaller States and demanded that UPA Government should honour the commitment that it gave for the formation of Telangana State. He said hundreds of youth have committed suicide demanding statehood for the Telangana region. Expressing confidence that those sacrifices would not go in vain, he demanded that the Centre take immediate steps for formation of Telangana. He also emphasised the need for unity among all pro-Telangana groups and leaders.
Describing the recently held Telangana March as a success, he said it was still being discussed in Delhi. However, he said that it would be difficult to predict when the Centre would announce formation of Telangana State.
Former PCC chief K Keshava Rao, Congress MPs, Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president Asaduddin Owiasi, JAC convener Prof M Kodandaram and other leaders were also present in the breakfast meeting. However, Owaisi clarified that his presence in the meeting was not political in nature and he came to meet his friend Jayant Chowdary, Ajit Singh’s son.
Later, the RLD chief also announced an executive committee for the RLD’s Telangana unit at a meeting attended by representatives from various districts at Sundarayya Vignana Kendra at Baghlingampally. Kapila Y Dilip Kumar has been named as the Honorary President, Mohammad Ilyas as Working President, Rama Madhusudan Rao wil be President and C Seshagiri Rao has been named as the Secretary General of the RLD’s Telangana unit.
