Union Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh has said that the agriculture sector was in a crisis.
Inaugurating a book written by former Agriculture Minister of AP V. Sobanadreshwara Rao on agriculture sector and farmers problems at Hyderabad today, Ajit Singh said the policies being adopted by the central and state governments were responsible for the present crisis. He said younger generation was not showing interest in agriculture as it is no longer a profitable proposition. He said policies of both central and state governments should be amended so that agriculture becomes a profitable profession.
Speaking on the occasion Union Minister of State for HRD Purandeshwari has said that she became an MP in a transformation from the role of a house wife to a politician in 2004. She said it was due to Sobanadreshwara Rao that she has developed understanding about agriculture.
Lok Satta Party President Jai Prakash Narayan has said that it was unfortunate that farmers were being used only as a vote bank and no government ever worried about their fate.
Author of the book Sobanadreshwara Rao said he had dedicated the book to NG Ranga and Chowdhary Charan Singh as fought all their lives for the farmers. (NSS)
