AIYF, DYFI gherao Minister’s Quarters

Hundreds of students affiliated with the AIYF and DYFI on Thursday tried to gherao the Minister’s Quarters at Banjara Hills in protest against the State Government’s alleged move to dilute the fee reimbursement scheme.

Talking to reporters, AIYF president Navaneethan Sambasiva Rao and DYFI’s M Swaraj demanded that the State Government reject the recommendations made by the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Fee Recommendations. They demanded that the existing Fee Reimbursement scheme should be continue in the interests of the students’ community.

The students’ leaders appealed to the government not to play with the careers and lives of students.

The City Police had a tough time controlling the activists when they tried to barge into the Minister’s Quarters. However, all the activists were later arrested and shifted to a nearby police station. (INN)
