AISF seeks new admissions for duped students

Hyderabad, January 29: Members of All-India Students Federation today demanded the authorities in the United States of America to ban bogus universities and provide admissions into other universities to the students who were duped by the Tri-Vally University.

The Federation students staged a Rasta Roko on Begumpet road halting the traffic movement on the Panjagutta- Begumpet stretch.

Later, AISF state secretary Uma Mahesh asked permission from the police officials to submit a memorandum to the US consulate general but the police refused their request. He alleged that the students were arrested and harassed by the US police in name of having fake visa permits after the Tri-Valley University shut down. He further alleged that about 750 bogus universities are present in the US.

Of the nearly 1,600 affected Indian students, 200 students belong to Andhra Pradesh, he said. They were interrogated by the California police officials, he alleged and said that the US consulate officials in India had colluded with the educational consultants to grant visas for the students of Tri-Valley University.

He demanded the central government to take steps to allow the students to enrol in other universities.

The federation city president M Venu demanded the Centre must provide compensation to the students who had lost their money. Most of the students belong to the middle class and had spent huge amounts of money as fee through loans, he said.

He threatened that if the central government failed to bring pressure on the US to save the students’ academic year and money, they would intensify their agitation across the State.

The police shifted the students to the Begumpet police station. About 50 students participated in the protest.
