Airtel launches HD gaming for 3G customers

Hyderabad, April 06: Bharti Airtel rolled out its 3G services in Hyderabad on Tuesday, making it the 21 {+s} {+t} city where the fast mobile internet services were launched by the company. Airtel also announced the launch of High Definition (HD) gaming for its 3G customers whose number touched the two million mark across the country.

Addressing a press conference after company’s brand ambassador Saina Nehwal launched the new services, Atul Bindal, president, Mobile Services, Bharti Airtel, said 3G would enable its mobile customers to experience mobile TV (over 100 channels), video calls, live streaming of videos, music store, application store, and on-the-go social networking all at speeds never experienced before.

It provides for seamless integration of popular services. Mr. Bindal said with 3G powered HD games such as NFS Shift Super, FIFA11 and EACricket10, gaming lovers across Airtel’s network in India could enjoy a console-like experience on their mobile handsets. Currently, 25 HD games were being offered. The HD gaming market is expected to touch half a billion mark in a couple of years, he said.

Special packages

The company also announced special packages aimed at addressing the 3G requirements of enterprise customers under the B2B category.

A first of its kind ‘internet usage calculator’ was available online to help customers monitor and analyse the current internet data usage and choose an Airtel 3G plan accordingly.

The 3G services would be launched in 500 cities and towns across the country by the end of the current fiscal, and they would be partnering with device manufacturers to enable customers have rich mobile internet experience at affordable prices, he said.

The company spent Rs.13,000 crore on 3G network and it paid a licence fee of Rs.1,350 crore for AP.

Vineet Taneja, Operations Director, South, Mobile Services, said 3G services would be extended to Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Warangal and Guntur soon as Airtel has 1.66 crore customer base in the State.
