New Delhi, March 16: Telecom service provider Aircel today entered into a partnership with British phone maker INQ to launch mobiles priced over Rs 5,000 in the country. As per the tie-up INQ will launch two handsets INQ CHAT 3G and INQ MINI priced at Rs 7,599 and Rs 5,399 respectively.
INQ Mobile, a unit of Hutchison Whampoa which was so far selling its phones mostly through Hutchison”s operators in different countries, will sell these devices in India through Aircel. INQ already has presence in nine markets spanning across the UK, Europe, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia.
“Both the devices will give the users a social networking experience, which helps them to stay connected,” INQ Chief Executive and Founder Frank Meehan told reporters here. INQ Mobile makes devices for new generation consumers who value email, Facebook, IM and Twitter as much as voice and text.
One of the two handsets launched is also 3G enabled. Going forward Aircel also plans to bid for spectrum for offering 3G services in the country.
Aircel COO Gurdeep Singh told reporters, that Aircel would be participating in the auction of spectrum for 3G mobile services.
