Air India to be reportedly split into four entities before its sale

New Delhi: The state-run carrier Air India is reported to be split into four separate entities before its sale. According to the proposed plan, each company would get at least 51 percent.

The indebted government airline would be bifurcated into core airline business, regional arm, ground handling and engineering operations, reported Bloomberg.

Bloomberg further quoted Junior Aviation Minister Jayant Sinha as saying, the core airline business comprising Air India and Air India Express, the low-cost overseas arm, will be offered as one company, and the process will be completed by the end of this year.

India had last week passed a proposal allowing foreign investors to own up to 49 percent in the national carrier.
